United Nations Women
Letter from the Chairperson
I, Navya Jain, welcome you all to the United Nations Women. I will be your chairperson in UN Women, tasked with “Addressing Gender Based Price Discrimination with Special Emphasis on Pink Tax”, for Shishukunj NC MUN'25.
I am an 11th grader, and I have opted for Commerce as my mainstream. One thing you can never find me doing is cooking. Truth be told, the kitchen feels more like a maze than a creative space to me. You won't find me pretending to be someone I'm not. I've come to realise that being true to yourself is far more rewarding than trying to adhere to set norms.
Stepping outside of my comfort zone, even though it can be intimidating at times, has been one of the most fulfilling habits I've cultivated. I have acquired most of my courage and confidence through MUNs, as I have dedicated more than half of my time to working on them, which has helped me enhance my negotiating and debating abilities. They provide me with the contentment no one else can.
Looking ahead, as a chairperson, I encourage delegates to have confidence and believe in themselves. We all bring different viewpoints and life experiences to the table, and it's this diversity that will fuel creative solutions to the challenges we face. I’m here to provide you with support and guidance throughout this journey, so please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns.
See you soon!
Regards,
Navya Jain

United Nations Women
Committee Description
30 years ago, the world came together on the premise of working with women, for women. UN Women is the UN entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. It works to uphold women's rights, accelerate progress, advocate for policy changes and promote women's full participation in all aspects of life. It raises awareness and supports initiatives related to gender-based violence, economic empowerment, and political participation. And now, 30 years later, it’s a platform for education and action, striving for a more equitable society.
Agenda Description
The agenda addresses gender-based price discrimination and focuses on steering the conversation towards the grave issue of "pink tax." In itself, it is not a governmental tax. Instead, it describes pricier goods and services advertised to women and less expensive alternatives for males. It takes over menstrual products, and even the most essential products. What’s the impact of this disparity on consumers? The agenda seeks to answer such questions and develop strategies for promoting equitable pricing practices and raising awareness about this issue that is plunging women globally into period poverty.
