Constituent Assembly of India

Letter from the Chairperson

Namaste delegates,

With this Sanskrit shloka “जननी जमभमिूमिच वर्गा दपि गरयसी” meaning mother and motherland are greater than heaven. I, Manasvini Sethia. Welcome you to the only Indian committee of the Shishukunj NC MUN 2025.

I am an 11th-grade commerce student. I'm someone with an endless desire to travel the world and uncover the unseen and unheard. I love diving into the unexplored—whether it's a hidden destination or a curious idea that no one talks about.

With a special attachment to Indian committees, I am delighted to serve as the chairperson of the Constituent Assembly of India. With three years of MUN experience, I have participated in more Indian committees than any other, which has helped deepen my understanding and appreciation for them. What makes this Indian committee particularly exciting is its historical significance and the continued relevance of its agenda in today's era.

I expect all delegates to engage in an in-depth study of the agenda and to recognize the esteemed legacy of the portfolios assigned. I also hope for insightful and constructive discussions, so that meaningful and sensible solutions can emerge from the committee.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, even if they seem silly. I will always strive to be as approachable and helpful as possible. I look forward to meeting you all at the conference!

Regards,

Manasvini Sethia

Chairperson

Constituent Assembly of India

Committee Description

The Constituent Assembly of India was established shortly after India's independence from British Rule. The Constitutional Assembly was initially made up of 389 members, but was reduced to 299 members after the partition. The honourable members sat in semicircular rows facing the president. The committee began its work in 1946 and completed the same in 1950, adopting the Constitution on 26 November 1949. The Constituent Assembly lasted for 2 years, 11 months and 17 days to complete its historic task of drafting the Constitution of India.

Agenda Description

“Deliberation on Emergency Provisions for the Republic of India” focuses on understanding how the Constitution allows special powers during times of serious crisis, like war or internal unrest. It aims to carefully examine how these powers can protect the nation without harming people's rights or weakening democracy. The goal is to find a fair balance of the rights of citizens as well as the security of the nation. Where the government stays strong in emergencies, but the values of freedom, justice, and accountability are never lost.
