International Maritime Organization

Letter from the Chairperson

Warmest Greetings Delegates,

With ecstatic delight, I am elated to serve as the Chairperson of the International Maritime Organisation, and welcome you all to the third iteration of Shishukunj NC MUN.

I started this glamorous MUN journey as a logistics member in 2022. I still remember my bureau from that MUN which made me head over heels for participating in yet another conference.

Honestly, I am a pretty compassionate and humble person, someone you can always count on for any kind of support. I am also a huge movie enthusiast which also means I will probably spend my weekend staring at my laptop screen, watching the same Bollywood movie for the 10th time. In addition to that, listening to songs of every genre and having multiple playlists of multiple moods has become an integral part of my life.

As the Chair, I believe that young delegates of this conference are thoroughly prepared for the debates and discussions and are all ready to embark on this journey. I look forward to this conference and meeting the future diplomats in the making. Sending all the delegates my heartfelt regards and wishes.

See you soon!

Regards,

Meher Bagga

Chairperson

International Maritime Organisation

Committee Description

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is the first UN agency that was established designated solely to maritime matters, which came into being in 1948. The IMO intends to secure, safeguard and promote efficient shipping on clean waters. The IMO deliberates on pressing maritime issues while also adopting protocols and conventions. The IMO strives to make the oceanic waters safer, more sustainable and efficient for global trade.

Agenda Description

The pressing environmental threats posed by ocean acidification and oil spills, both of which have devastating impacts on marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and coastal livelihoods, are an issue on the rise. Ocean acidification, fueled by rising carbon emissions, weakens marine life and disrupts food chains, while oil spills cause long-term ecological and economic damage. We aim to explore innovative solutions, strengthen global cooperation, and develop effective policies to protect ocean health, safeguard coastal communities, and promote sustainable use of marine resources for future generations.
