United Nations Security Council

Letter from the Chairperson

Namaste Delegates,

I’m Suyash Jalan, and it’s both an honour and a joy to serve as the Chairperson for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) at the Shishukunj North Campus MUN 2025.

I'm in Grade 11 and deeply interested in finance and diplomacy. I’m a talker (you’ve been warned) and slightly too attached to my playlists and sitcoms.  I’m fascinated by the dance of geopolitics. I admire literature, where a handful of words can move mountains, and I’m captivated by cinema, which so beautifully captures the human experience. In all of it—whether it's a speech in committee or a scene in a film—I see the stories and the impact they carry. What truly drives me, though, is a well-argued point. I expect all of you to come prepared, with an open mind. Research thoroughly, but come with a spirit of collaboration and a willingness to engage in constructive discussion.

I hope this conference becomes a learning platform and helps you explore the world of politics and diplomacy more deeply. I aim to share, with you all, my love for MUNs.

And remember—feel free to reach out. Whether it’s a doubt in the ROP or a question about the agenda, I’m always approachable and just a message away.

I truly can’t wait to meet you all —let’s make this conference an unforgettable one, together!

Regards,

Suyash Jalan

Chairperson

United Nations Security Council

Committee Description

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the five organs of the United Nations, founded on 17 January 1946, with the critical mandate of ensuring international peace and security. It is the sole UN organ whose decisions are binding on member states. The UNSC is empowered to sanction peacekeeping operations and even authorise amendments to the UN Charter.

The Council consists of five permanent members, and the ten non-permanent members serve two-year terms, adding diverse perspectives to the Council's work.

Agenda Description

The Arctic Circle encircles the northernmost parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. Environmental changes, economic interests, geopolitical tensions, claims of territory, and historical motives contribute to the militarisation of the Arctic Circle. Climate change is melting sea ice at a rapid rate, exposing vast undiscovered resources. Militarisation of the Arctic Circle has a significant effect on the security, environment, and geopolitics of the region. UNSC seeks to de-escalate tensions and military buildup in the Arctic Circle.
