Letter from the Chairpersons

Dear Delegates,

It is with great enthusiasm that we, your Chair and Co-Chair of the UNOOSA committee, welcome you to the third iteration of Shishukunj NC MUN 2025! Prepare yourselves for an experience that promises to be nothing short of extraordinary. We are eager to embark on this incredible journey with everyone of you!

I’m Avish Goyal, a grade 11 student pursuing Science with Physical Education. I aspire to get into IIT for aerospace engineering; space has always fascinated me! Outside academics, I love reading, sports (especially badminton, which I play professionally up to the state level), and music; I play both the guitar and piano. Dancing? Not happening. I also enjoy travelling and often drift into thought, so if I zone out, you’ll know why! My MUN journey began in 8th grade, and I’ve loved every moment of it. Whether you’re a seasoned delegate or it’s your first conference, remember, every voice matters.

I, Anushka Shami, as a humanities student with a passion for psychology and politics, and a dream to crack UPSC to serve my country as an IAS officer, I'm all about making a difference. You might find me lost in music or writing poems – it's where my soul comes alive. I love adventures, but nothing beats laughing with friends. I've always been drawn to the art of debate, where I've earned accolades. I believe in the power of meaningful debates where everyone learns something from others, as it's a great way to exchange ideas and perspectives. Over the years, I’ve sharpened my leadership skills as a house leader and council member, and I take pride in bringing out the best in my peers, My humorous side helps lighten the mood, and I love tackling challenges with a smile. Basketball is my game, and I'm always up for a laugh! I'm beyond excited to be your co-chair, I can't wait to see your incredible debating skills, collaboration, and problem-solving shine at this NC MUN!

Your engagement in the upcoming committee sessions is highly anticipated. We encourage a spirit of receptiveness, collaborative teamwork, and lively debate. Should any questions arise regarding the Model United Nations (MUN), please do not hesitate to seek guidance. Comprehensive research, active participation, and collaborative endeavours are strongly encouraged. We are enthusiastic about the prospect of a conference marked by insightful discussions and groundbreaking solutions.

Let’s pass a motion for a long coffee break on Saturn—and please, no space cowboys!

Can’t wait to meet you soon!

Regards,

Avish Goyal and Anushka Shami

United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs

Committee Description

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) promotes international cooperation in the peaceful use and exploration of outer space, aiming for its sustainable use for the benefit of all humankind. Established after General Assembly resolution 1348 (XIII) on 13 December 1958, it began as an ad hoc committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. UNOOSA supports developing countries in accessing space technology to advance sustainable development through space law, capacity building, and space-based solutions, treating outer space as a global commons.

Agenda Description

With growing orbital crowding and the rise of private space companies, international regulation is essential for sustainability and safety. This agenda promotes licensing, liability rules, and environmental safeguards for private space activities through UN-led satellite databases to track orbiting objects. Standardised procedures for collision avoidance and improved data sharing are crucial for managing orbital traffic. Balancing innovation, responsible space use, and fair access will require stronger international cooperation through legally binding agreements and multilateral frameworks under the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).
