Food and Agriculture Organization
Namaste Delegates,
It’s such a pleasure to welcome you all to the 3rd iteration of The Shishukunj NC MUN. I’ll be serving as your Chair for the FAO Committee, and I truly can’t wait to meet all of you and watch this committee come alive!
I am Samriddhi Singh, a Grade 11 student who’s taken Humanities with Legal Studies. Yes, I hope to become a lawyer one day but more than anything, I’ve always dreamt of joining the Indian Armed Forces. It’s close to my heart, especially because I’ve grown up in that world and it has shaped who I am. The discipline, the pride, the sense of service, it’s something I’ve admired since I was little. On the lighter side, I’m hooked on sitcoms they’re my comfort watch and I love meeting new people, sharing laughs, and having genuine conversations.
This year’s agenda might sound intense, but trust me, you’ve got this. This committee is about learning, speaking up, making mistakes, and growing from them. You don’t need to be an expert. Just stay curious, think critically, and contribute.
I am not here to judge, I am here to help, and let me tell you that there is no such thing as silly questions so you can ask me anything and If you’re ever confused, nervous, or just need someone to talk to, I’m always there. We’re in this together.
Wishing you all the very best!!
Regards,
Samriddhi Singh
Chairperson
The Food and Agriculture Organisation.
COMMITTEE DESCRIPTION
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is a specialised agency under the United Nations that works to end hunger, increase agricultural output, and guarantee food security worldwide. Its goals are to alleviate poverty and hunger by advancing sustainable farming methods, aiding in rural development, and fostering global collaboration. To ensure that everyone has fair access to wholesome food while preserving the planet's natural resources, the FAO strives to balance resource usage, preserve ecosystems, and strengthen food systems' resilience.
AGENDA DESCRIPTION
Balancing land use for biofuel production and food security is important to ensure that land is used efficiently without affecting food production. Biofuels, like biogas and renewable diesel, can lead to deforestation and water pollution. The growing biofuel sector contributes to environmental degradation and land degradation, but it also reduces the effects of greenhouse gas as compared to fossil fuels. Biofuels are renewable and are produced from natural resources like crops. The aim is to understand the impact of biofuels on food security in 51 developing countries.
