Letter from the Chairperson

Namaste Delegates,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the WMO Committee. Currently a Grade 12 student, I am delighted and truly excited to serve as your Chairperson. Since 2022, I have participated in various MUN conferences, which have provided me with the opportunity to take on a wide range of roles - from serving as a delegate and a member of the logistics team to now fulfilling the position of Chairperson.

Through these experiences, I have discovered that MUN is far more than speeches and diplomacy; it is an educational, collaborative, confidence-building, and enriching experience. Beyond serving as your chairperson, I would be delighted to assist you with any aspect of the conference. 

I sincerely hope that every member of this committee comes well prepared, remains open-minded, participates actively in debate, and, above all, enjoys the learning experience throughout the conference. 

I hope this conference inspires you to participate in many more such events in the future. I look forward to meeting all of you at the conference.

COMMITTEE DESCRIPTION

The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations that focuses on meteorology, climatology, and hydrology. It promotes international cooperation in addressing climate-related challenges and natural disasters. The objective of this committee is to discuss drought mitigation and the sustainable management of safe water resources through science and international cooperation. The committee will focus on diplomacy, science, and policymaking. Delegates will discuss how droughts affect people, agriculture, and the environment. They will work together to find practical solutions and encourage cooperation between countries. The committee will also focus on using scientific knowledge to reduce the impact of water shortages.

AGENDA DESCRIPTION

The agenda focuses on developing strategies to address drought conditions while ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water for all. This will involve promoting water conservation techniques, improving forecasting methods, and strengthening international cooperation to address water scarcity. Delegates may explore strategies such as rainwater harvesting, water purification, sustainable agriculture, and efficient irrigation systems. The agenda will also focus on helping communities prepare for droughts before they become severe. Delegates may discuss ways to use water more wisely and reduce wastage. They will explore how countries can share knowledge, resources, and technology to ensure universal access to clean and safe water.
