Letter from the Chairperson

Namaste Delegates,

It is my privilege to welcome you all to the 4th edition of Shishukunj NC MUN 2026. I am ecstatic to serve as your chairperson for the Lok Sabha.

I am a curious 11th- grade student pursuing PCM, as it empowers me to explore and understand the infinite number of questions that constantly come to my mind. I am a person who seeks fun in everything. Fulfilling hobbies are everything to me, and almost everything counts as a hobby for me. My taste in music varies from 90s Bollywood music to English hip-hop. I am always found talking or engaged in something because I can’t sit still. Despite this, I am called patient; I can’t figure out how.

My MUN journey began in 7th grade, where I was astonished to see every bit of it and excited to learn more. Mun’s have helped me acquire traits like courage, confidence, and stepping out of my comfort zone even when I hesitate to do so.

Discussions and debates are vital to express and make your ideas known to everyone. The four walls await your presence, expecting an enthusiastic spirit from each one of you. We encourage you to address questions without hesitation to carry forward the journey of learning flawlessly.

COMMITTEE DESCRIPTION

The Lok Sabha is the primary democratic forum and the directly elected lower house of India's Parliament. It represents the will of the citizens of India through universal adult suffrage and ensures direct accountability to the people. It initiates and passes legislation, playing a central role in shaping the country's legal framework. It exercises oversight over the executive branch through mechanisms such as Question Hour, Adjournment Motions, and No-Confidence Motions, and may propose and pass amendments to the Constitution with the requisite majority.

AGENDA DESCRIPTION

The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (2023) provides for 33% reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. However, the implementation of this law is contingent upon the completion of the census and the delimitation process, and is therefore unlikely to come into effect before 2029. The committee will deliberate on the implications of this legislation with respect to reservation, delimitation, and constituency rotation. Broader issues including its impact on federal balance, electoral accountability, and the substantive representation of women shall also be examined. The intersectionality of this legislation with existing Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe reservations must be considered, alongside concerns regarding tokenism and the degree of genuine electoral accountability it may or may not foster.
