Letter from the Chairperson
Namaste Delegates,
It is both my honour and pleasure to welcome you all to the United Nations Women at the 4th iteration of Shishukunj NC MUN. I am Haya Patel, and I will be serving as the Chairperson of the United Nations Women (UNW). As an 11th-grade Commerce student, my daily life is usually spent dealing with numbers and business concepts, but my true passion lies right here, in the world of debate.
I am an absolute MUN enthusiast through and through, and I firmly believe that dialogue and diplomatic discourse can fix even the worst problems the world faces today. When I am not buried in schoolwork or busy doing assignments, you can usually find me binge-watching television dramas. In fact, my all-time favourite show is Gossip Girl. No matter how many new series come out, I always find myself drawn back to the streets of the Upper East Side.
My journey with our school’s MUN has been an incredible ride. From starting as a logistics team member to now serving as your Chairperson, I have truly seen it all. I am so excited for all of you to experience the same rush of emotions, nervousness, and excitement that I once felt when I first started. Prepare thoroughly, research deeply, and bring your absolute best to the floor. I look forward to witnessing your achievements. Welcome to UN Women. Let’s make the best of it!

COMMITTEE DESCRIPTION
UN Women exists to advance women’s rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls. It was established in 2010 by a merger of the UN Development Fund for Women and other agencies. Serving as the lead United Nations entity on gender equality, it works to reform laws, institutions, social norms, and services to close the gender gap and build a more equal world for all women. UN Women keeps the rights of women and girls at the centre of global progress, striving for a safer, more inclusive, and equitable society for all.
AGENDA DESCRIPTION
The agenda addresses digital violence and online harassment targeting women and girls, with a focus on strengthening global efforts to combat it. As digital platforms grow, the agenda stresses that digital safety is not a privilege but a basic human right. While many countries have enacted relevant laws, they are not strong enough to deal with cross-border digital crimes, which allow offenders to escape consequences. This is what makes it so urgent to strengthen the global framework that ensures safer digital platforms and stronger enforcement. To empower women and girls and to foster equality in the digital age, it is essential to ensure their dignity, privacy, and freedom from abuse online.
